McNair Scholars DirectoryLast Updated (November 1, 2011)

Annually, the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) and the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) collaborate to produce the national McNair Scholars Directory. The Directory is a database of Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program scholars projected to graduate this year or next year. The database serves as a valuable recruitment tool by allowing Graduate School deans and fellowship program directors to directly contact a cohort of highly talented and motivated students. To find out more about the advantages of recruiting McNair scholars, click here (.pdf) to download the COE-CGS McNair brochure.

The Directory includes student names, contact information, undergraduate major and graduate field of interest identified by the GRE taxonomy codes and undergraduate research presentations. By manipulating the directory by the GRE codes (.pdf) or by state, Graduate school deans can directly recruit students interested in a particular area of study or from a particular region. By sorting on areas of interest or fields of study, relevant data can be batched and disseminated in a manageable format to Department Chairs to share with faculty.

For detailed instructions on how to manipulate the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Directory, please click here (.pdf).

NOTE — To ensure protection of student information captured in the McNair Directory, the Excel file is password protected. The password is being distributed to accredited post-secondary institutions of higher education and their graduate programs though the Council of Graduate Schools. If you require the password, please contact Lennox Alfred at (lennox.alfred@pellinstitute.org) or (202) 638-2887. You must provide a campus and website address to verify identification, and state your need for access to the file.

The above-mentioned password will allow you to access the file in a “read-only” format. You do not need a second password to access the file in this way. Once you have opened the file as “read-only,” save it to a secured directory or folder on your desktop by using the “Save As” function under the “File” tab in Excel.

Data in the “read-only” version of the directory can be manipulated. However, no changes can be saved to the original document.

McNair Scholars Fee Waiver ListLast Updated (January 11, 2012)

The Council for Opportunity in Education, in conjunction with the Council of Graduate Schools, has compiled The List of Graduate Schools That Offer Fee Waivers and/or Other Opportunities to McNair Scholars. This list was compiled as a resource to help McNair Scholars find graduate schools that offer graduate school application fee waivers and/or fellowships and other opportunities that are available to McNair Scholars.

This is not a comprehensive list of all graduate schools that offer fee waivers and/or other opportunities that are available to McNair Scholars. Schools were added to this list based on the completion of an opt-in survey that we made available to graduate school officials.

The List of Graduate Schools That Offer Fee Waivers and/or Other Opportunities to McNair Scholars is sorted primarily by state, then by school name. Several schools have multiple entries on the list due to variances in fee waiver offerings, contact information, etc. We requested a standard set of information from all of the schools on this list, but not all of the requested information was required, so you may notice that some schools have more information on the list than others.

There are two versions of the entire, detailed McNair Fee Waiver List available:

  • Online version (available at the COE website) — We strongly suggest that McNair Scholars use this version. The list is broken down into groups by state alphabetical order. Individual pages can be viewed online and printed.

  • Portable Document Format version (.pdf) — We have made the entire list available particularly for McNair Directors who may want to add a hard copy to their resource libraries. Please note that the list is quite extensive (200+ pages), so be wary of unintentionally attempting to print the entire list.

Attention: McNair Scholars

Many schools on The List of Graduate Schools That Offer Fee Waivers and/or Other Opportunities to McNair Scholars require McNair Scholars to complete and submit the McNair Scholars Fee Waiver Form (.pdf) as part of the graduate application fee waiver process.

NOTE — This completed form should only be sent to graduate schools that you are applying to, in the manner that each respective school specifies, and not to COE or CGS.

Attention: Graduate School Officials

If you are a representative of a graduate school that is currently not included in The List of Graduate Schools That Offer Fee Waivers and/or Other Opportunities to McNair Scholars, and would like to add your school to this list, please contact Lennox Alfred at (lennox.alfred@pellinstitute.org).

If you are aware of a school that currently offers fee waivers and/or other special opportunities that McNair Scholars are eligible for, and that school is not currently included in The List of Graduate Schools That Offer Fee Waivers and/or Other Opportunities to McNair Scholars, please ask officials from that school to contact us, or inform us about the school and we will contact the school.
